Adaptive dual control in one biomedical problem

In this paper, the following biomedical problem is considered. People are subjected to a certain chemotherapeutic treatment. The optimal dosage is the maximal dose for which an individual patient will have toxicity level that does not cross the allowable limit. We discuss sequential procedures for searching the optimal dosage, which are based on the concept of dual control and the principle of optimality. According to the dual control theory, the control has two purposes that might be conflicting: one is to help learning about unknown parameters and/or the state of the system (estimation); the other is to achieve the control objective. Student behavioral engagement as a mediator between teacher, family, and peer support and school truancy

This study investigated the associations between student's behavioral engagement; teacher, family, and peer emotional support; and school truancy. Student-reported data of 821 Finnish junior high school students were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Teacher and family support were positively associated with student behavioral engagement, which in turn was negatively associated with truancy. Behavioral engagement mediated the associations between teacher and family emotional support and truancy. The results highlight the pivotal roles of teacher and family emotional support in fostering student behavioral engagement and preventing truancy in junior high schools. Students who are …

H∞ static output-feedback control design with constrained information for offshore wind turbine system

Abstract This paper deals with H ∞ static output-feedback control design with constrained information for offshore wind turbines. Constrained information indicates that a special zero–nonzero structure is imposed on the static output-feedback gain matrix. A practical use of such an approach is to design a decentralized controller for a wind turbine. This will also benefit the controller in such a way that it is more tolerant to sensor failure. Finite-Time H∞ Filtering for T-S Fuzzy Discrete-Time Systems with Time-Varying Delay and Norm-Bounded Uncertainties

In this paper, we investigate the filtering problem of discrete-time Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy uncertain systems subject to time-varying delays. A reduced-order filter is designed. With the augmentation technique, a filtering error system with delayed states is obtained. In order to deal with time delays in system states, the filtering error system is first transformed into two interconnected subsystems. By using a two-term approximation for the time-varying delay, sufficient delay-dependent conditions of finite-time boundedness and $H_{\infty }$ performance of the filtering error system are derived with the Lyapunov function. Robust H∞ synchronization of a hyper-chaotic system with disturbance input

Abstract This paper concerns the robust control problems on the synchronization of a hyper-chaotic system with disturbance input. Using an appropriate Lyapunov function, we design the multi-dimensional and the single-dimensional robust H ∞ synchronization controllers in terms of linear matrix inequalities for the application in practical engineering. Corresponding theoretical derivations are given subsequently. Finally, some numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques.

-Infinity robust controller design for the synchronization of master-slave chaotic systems with disturbance input

By constructing a series of Lyapunov functions, novel H1 robust syn- chronization controllers are designed, whose control regulation possess the characteristic of simpleness and explicitness. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the e ectiveness of the proposed techniques.

An LMI approach to vibration control of base-isolated building structures with delayed measurements

In this article, we address a convex optimisation approach to the problem of state-feedback H∞ control design for vibration reduction of base-isolated building structures with delayed measurements, where the delays are time-varying and bounded. An appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and some free-weighting matrices are utilised to establish some delay-range-dependent sufficient conditions for the design of desired controllers in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Gain-scheduled H-infinity observer design for nonlinear stochastic systems with time-delay and actuator saturation

In this paper, we propose a method for designing continuous gain-scheduled robust H ∞ observer on a class of extended stochastic nonlinear systems subject to time delay and actuator saturation. Initially, gradient linearization procedure is applied to describe such extended nonlinear systems into several model-based linear systems.
